The SIG SP2022 with standard 15 round magazine.
The SP2022 is the current version of the SIG Pro. The SIG Pro was SIG Sauer’s first Polymer framed handgun. It was also one of the first modular handguns as it had interchangeable backstraps and the .40 S&W version could also be converted to fire .357 SIG. It was also the first SIG with a light rail, though at introduction it was proprietary. Both the SIG .40 S&W and .357 SIG versions had the same model number, 2340. In 1999, the 9x19mm version was introduced and given the model number 2009. The 2022 was introduced in 2003 and is the same gun without the removable backstraps and a picatinny/1913 rail instead of a proprietary rail.
LIke most 1990s service pistols, the SIG Pro series is double action on the first shot and single action on subsequent shots. Even though the slide controls look different, the SP2022, operates and shoots in the same manner as SIG’s other 9mm full size pistols, like the P226. It is very accurate and has an excellent single action trigger pull. It has sold well to police, military, and paramilitary organizations around the world. Various French police and security agencies have acquired over 250,000 SP2022s and the Colombian Police have procured over 100,000. It has even been procured by the U.S. Army for use as a tank crew sidearm as well as the DEA. SIG currently offers the SP202 in Black Nitron finish with standard 3 dot sights in both 9x19mm and .40 S&W. They also offer the 9x19mm version in Flat Dark Earth (FDE) wtih SIG Lite, tritium night sights. The details below are for 9mm version.
