Romanian PSL Sniper Rifle

The PSL is an actual Romanian sniper rifle with a new Romanian receiver to allow importation into the United States.

Romanian PSL with Romanian LPS 4x6o Scope.

The Centerfire Systems Dragunov is actually not a version of the Dragunov.  It is a Romanian PSL sniper rifle which is based on the AK action with a Dragunov style stock.  PSL stands for Pusca Semiautomatica cu Luneta which is Romanian for semi-automatic rifle with scope.

The PSL is built on a modified AK action and RPK machine gun receiver.  Though it copies some features of the SVD, its receiver and gas action is not as optimized for the 7.62x54R round as the SVD is.  The PSL does have one innovation though, that is not found on the SVD, a metal stock butt plate attached with springs to dampen recoil.

On the left side of its receiver, it has a standard SVD quick attachment scope mount and thus can mount any scope normally used for an SVD.   However, the PSL is normally equipped with a Romanian designed scope that is generally a copy of a Russian PSO without an IR illuminator.  This scope has excellent quality glass and is very clear with good light gathering capabilities.

This gun is not as accurate as a Western sniper rifle or even a Russian SVD.  However, it was designed more for the Designated Marksmen Role (DMR) than a single shot long- range sniper role.  In the role it was designed for it is intended to rapidly hit man sized targets out to 600 yards, and it can do this very well.

These weapons were supplied, by Romania, to many Soviet client states during the Cold War and it has been frequently encountered in conflicts around the world, including:   Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.  The PSL is also the basis for the Iraqi Tabuk sniper rifle.

The Centerfire Systems guns are manufactured in Romania using military parts sets and a new receiver (BATF doesn’t allow the original, even though they were never fully automatic.)  The finish on the gun is somewhat rough but correct for a military issue gun.

This version of the gun comes with the original Romanian LPS 4x6o scope and a single 10 round magazine.  The used be less than $1,000 but, after being off the market for several years, they are now being re-imported with consumer prices that are around $1,800 and up.
