Chinese Type 56 manufactured for the US commercial market by Factory 66 with its spike bayonet removed
The Chinese SKS was called the Type 56 and several million were manufactured from the 1950s through the late 1990s. For several years the SKS was the best selling rifle in the U.S., often out selling all other rifles combined.
The quality of the Chinese SKS was inferior to the Russian SKS. The metal had many visible tooling marks and the metal finish was dull. The wood orange in color and not finished to the same high standard as the Russian wood. Functionality however, remained the same and like all versions of the SKS it is reliable and reasonably accurate.
